Mary Cummins - Animal Advocates
Animal Advocates in Los AngelesAnimal Advocates is a non-profit animal rescue and education organization located in the Los Angeles County area but serve most of California and some parts of the United States through their network of sister rescue organizations. This nonprofit organization was founded by Mary Cummins because she loved animals and wanted to help save injured animals in her neighborhood. Her work grew from there to help train and empower a network of dozens of wildlife rehabilitation services -- not only in Los Angeles but as far away as India!
Animal Advocates works with local city and private animal shelters, schools, private groups and other rescue organizations to rescue and rehabilitate domestic and wild animals. Animal Advocates foster and re-home domestic animals in our homes. Animal Advocates also foster and release wild animals in association with licensed wildlife rehabilitators and vets.
Animal Advocates staff and volunteers educate the public about domestic animal issues such as spay/neuter, proper pet care, pet health and pet guardian etiquette. They also educate about wild animal issues such as living in harmony with nature, what to do if you find an orphaned wild animal and how to keep wild animals healthy and happy.
Animal Advocates has an LA City Wildlife permit. Our facility is legally zoned for wildlife and wildlife rehabilitation. We also have a USDA exhibitors permit, CADFG trapping permit and euthanasia certification. We offer CADFG accredited classes in small mammal rehabilitation. We have free online manuals for rehabbers only in small mammal rehabilitation. We never advocate wildlife as pets. It is also illegal to have wildlife as pets in California. We give information on long term care for legal unreleasable animals only.
Mary Cummins is President of Animal Advocates. She is licensed with the California Department of Fish & Game, USDA and the city of Los Angeles to rescue and rehabilitate wildlife. Cummins speaks to local community groups and students about respecting wildlife and humane wildlife control. She is also a licensed Nuisance Wildlife Control Operator.
Mary was instrumental in changing Los Angeles County laws to allow certified rescue operations across the county. Call her if you would like to volunteer. Animal Advocates receives many more requests to rescue animals than the network can handle. Mary's organization will train volunteers to transport injured animals, as well as help them set up a rescue operation in homes.
If you'd like to help with a donation, that is also vital. Baby formula and veterinary bills for the rescued babies are the major portion of these volunteers' budgets. Your ongoing support truly helps keep our community wildlife healthier and more abundant.
