Summer Camps - California

Summer camps offer children a wonderful playground for learning new skills, relationship building and exposure to new locations. By working with camp counselors, they learn new real world skills of living with adults other than their own parents -- which will come in handy during their early adult years. There are many camps available -- some low cost, some day camps, some a once in a lifetime adventure. Here are a few that are available in California to give you an idea of the range of opportunities offered. Many more are available and can be found by searching for the location or type of camp you seek.

Arboretum Explorers: Nature Exploration Camp

Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden
Find out about strange and wonderful plants and water features, play nature games and go on nature expeditions, make cool natural crafts and beautiful garden art, grow your very own garden: flowers veggies, herbs, and more. For campers ages 8 - 14. 626-821-3222. They also offer Tours at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Gaden. Garden Sprouts offers gardening for children. Family Adventures each Saturday has a nature or environment theme for story or talk, and a nature walk, and a take-home nature craft. www.arboretum.org

L.A. Zoo Camp

Children from preschool through those entering 6th grade will enjoy this fun camp. Kids will learn through engaging activities, games, and even live animal ambassadors while discovering the wonders of wildlife. Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens offers special events and even birthday parties. Guided tours, rentals for special programs such as family or company picnics, and safaris are available from the LA Zoo Camp
